Hobart Town Hall

This wonderful program from renowned Australian musicians Sophie Rowell and Kristian Chong features at its centrepiece one of the jewels of the sonata repertoire – the César Franck sonata – essentially a celebration of life, written by the composer as a wedding gift for the violinist Ysaÿe. This is paired with a delightful, energetic and buoyant sonata by Mozart and the Australian composer Margaret Sutherland with her enigmatic sonata. A brilliant program not to be missed.

MOZART
Sonata for Piano and Violin K. 380 in E flat major
Margaret Sutherland
Sonata for Violin and Piano
César Franck
Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major

A wonderfully spirited performance which conveyed wistful and perky moments, and contained some delicately expressive phrasing.
